Bond Program - Cape Coral BMX has an alternate to taking trophies as awards for races held at our track. This program only applies to trophy races. Races that are for ribbons or points do not qualify. To enroll in this program, the rider must inform the Registrar that they want to be Bonded. They will need to provide their Social Security Number and the name of an alternate owner for the Savings Bond. All riders in the program will have a (B) printed on the moto sheets behind their name. For each trophy that a rider earns they will receive a “bond punch”. After 10 punches, a $75.00 Savings Bond will be purchased on their behalf. The bonds are mailed to the track and the riders can pick them up from the Registration Office. All bonds must be signed for by an adult before being released. The Treasurer maintains the bond punch list and will be happy to answer any questions about a rider’s status in the program.
Bob Warnicke Scholarship - The NBL/Bob Warnicke Memorial Scholarship Fund was created to assist students and their families in meeting the costs of undergraduate college education, trade school, etc. To be eligible for the Bond Program members should have a current NBL competition license or officials license and have been participated in BMX racing events sanctioned by the NBL for at least one year. The award will be presented to the recipient at Competition Congress.
The check will be sent directly to the Financial Aid office of the recipient's intended school. Some qualifications of the Bond Program are:
Be a high school graduate/or attending a post secondary school at the time of application. Be accepted and plan to attend an accredited post secondary school as a full-time or part-time student for the complete award year. Be an active member or official member of the National Bicycle League, with participation either locally or nationally. Be current, active licensed official and have worked local or national races during the past year.
L.E.A.P - Rookies, Novices, Experts, Girls, and Cruisers will all receive L.E.A.P points by proficiency for the 2006 season. Every NBL track that runs 15 sanctioned local races in one season will be eligible. A rider who races eight local point class races at a track will be eligible to receive the following:
L.E.A.P. Numberplate: The L.E.A.P. numberplate can be just by racing at a local track. The NBL awards L.E.A.P. numberplates to the top 10 rookies. Novices and Experts and the top 5 Girls and Cruisers at each track. L.E.A.P. numberplates are earned by proficiency, not age and are based on a total points series beginning January 1st each year and ending on December 15th each year. Jackets and numberplates will be awarded based on the proficiency that the rider is as of December 31st. A rider may earn a L.E.A.P. numberplate from more than one track. However, the numberplate (plate and number) can only be used at the local track where it is earned.
L.E.A.P Jacket: The L.E.A.P. jacket can be earned by racing at a local track. The NBL awards a TRACK jacket to the #1 rider in Crusier, Girl, Expert, Novice, and Rookies. L.E.A.P. jackets are awarded by proficiency not age and are based on a total points series beginning January 1st of each year and ending on December 15th each year. A rider may earn a L.E.A.P. jacket from more than one track.
The President’s Cup is an invitation only race conducted by the NBL where states compete against other states. It is held annually in December, usually in Columbus, Ohio (home of the NBL headquarters). A rider may qualify to be a rider representing Florida by placing in the TOP 15 in their age/class at the Florida State BMX Championships in the year preceding the President’s Cup Race. To help our local riders Cape Coral BMX conducts 50/50 raffles at local races to raise money to offset their expenses.
To qualify for a share of these funds a rider must:
• Qualify for the President’s Cup.
• Have an adult sell 50/50 tickets at least once during the year. The adult must be a family member and designate at the time of the ticket sale whom they are selling the tickets for. The minimum money collected for the ticket sales must be at least $100.
• Race a minimum of 20 local races at Cape Coral BMX during the year (January 1 – December 1).
• Have an adult contribute a minimum of 30 volunteer hours during the year.
• Have a parent or adult attend a minimum of 4 Parent Council meetings during the year.
• Register for the President’s Cup race and race in moto 1.
Volunteer hours can be done during a race, during a work party, in the concession stand or on other Board approved projects. The Volunteer Coordinator is responsible for documenting volunteer hours. Parents are expected to sign up to sell 50/50 tickets ahead of time. It is the responsibility of each adult volunteer to verify that they have signed in at Parent Council meetings and that their volunteer hours are logged correctly with the Volunteer Coordinator indicating for which rider the hours are designated.
The amount of money collected between January 1 and December 1 of each year will be divided equally among the riders who meet the above criteria. Each rider is eligible for only one share even if they ride both a 20 inch bike and a cruiser. However, both 20 inch and cruiser races can be used together to obtain the 20 race requirement.
Checks will be made out to the riders and distributed after the first moto at the President’s Cup race.
Parents would be wise to complete their requirements early in the year. Waiting to the last minute may not work, especially for the 50/50 sales which are only done during races. Sign up ahead of time to reserve your date.
